9. Precautions when pilots go to the bathroom

When any of the pilots goes into the bathroom, a purser goes into the cockpit and waits for the pilot to come back. This is actually a security measure. You should also note that every single toilet in the plane can be opened not only from the inside but the outside too. That way, if someone passes away or gets injured while in the air, the manager will be able to easily open the toilet door.

The sign “no smoking” has a security mechanism behind it. It’s part of the mechanism that makes it possible for one to open the door from the outside.
