Kate Winslet Jennifer Lopez and 8 Other Celebrities Who Have Been Married at Least 3 Times

Real talk: Saying "I do" doesn't necessarily lead to a happy ending for everyone. The fact is that any number of reasons — from cheating and clashing opinions on finances or child-rearing to just plain "irreconcilable differences" — can lead to a split. Although it may feel discouraging, divorce doesn't have to derail efforts to find and lock down that "till death do us part" kind of love. Plenty of people are happy to tie the knot once, twice, even three times or more! Of course, many celebrities have made headlines for doing precisely that. These 10 stars have proven themselves to be hopeless romantics by walking down the aisle multiple times.

1. Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet has been married three times. Her first was to assistant director Jim Threapleton from 1998 to 2001, not long after welcoming daughter Mia in October 2000. The "Titanic" star was married to director Sam Mendes from 2003 to 2010. Winslet and Mendes have a son named Joe. Then, in 2012, she married her current husband Ned Rocknroll, and the two have a son named Bear who was born in December 2013. In 2015, Winslet told the Wall Street Journal, "No one really knows what has happened in my life. No one really knows why my first marriage didn't last; no one knows why my second didn't. And I'm proud of those silences... I know lots of people who are not in the public eye who have gone through several marriages, I really do, and it's just those are the cards that life dealt me."

2. Nicolas Cage

Growing up in a Hollywood family (his real last name is Coppola, and his uncle is Francis Ford Coppola, who directed "The Godfather"), life has never exactly looked conventional for the "Leaving Las Vegas" star. Cage married Patricia Arquette in 1995, and the two split in 2001. In 2002, he tied the knot with Lisa Marie Presley, but the pair separated after three months of marriage and divorced in 2004. "That particular relationship was really based on humor," Cage, who is a well-known Elvis fanatic, explained to The Guardian in 2013. "We had a lot of laughs together. So that's what that was. Much was made about it because of her father and whatnot, but we had a simple relationship, in my opinion. That was a different time in my life. Many lifetimes ago." That same year, Cage married Alice Kim, but they separated in 2016.

3. Pam Anderson

The former "Baywatch" star has been married four times. The first time she tied the knot, it was to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee in 1995. The pair had only known one another for a matter of days! They welcomed sons Brandon (in 1996) and Dylan (in 1997) and divorced in 1998. From 2006 to 2007, Anderson was married to Kid Rock. Then from 2007 to 2008, she called Rick Salomon her husband, but the marriage was annulled. Anderson and Salomon secretly remarried in 2014, but the pair split in 2015. But as far as the one ex she'll never get over? Lee. In 2015, Anderson told People, "He was the love of my life. There was Tommy, and then there was nobody else."

4. Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez has made a name for herself on the silver screen, small screen and in both the music and dance worlds. Of course, her love life has always been a target of tongue-wagging. While she's made headlines for many relationships that never made it to "I do" (Ben Affleck!), J.Lo has officially become a Mrs. three times. From 1997 to 1998, she was married to actor and producer Ojani Noa. From 2001 to 2003, she and backup dancer Cris Judd were hitched. And in 2004, Lopez married Marc Anthony, with whom she welcomed twins Emme and Max in February 2008. The couple, who appear to co-parent amicably, split in 2011. In 2014, she told InStyle: "Look, I don't love being alone," she said. "I don't. I can't beat myself up for that…. There are just lots of ways it can turn out instead of just one."

5. Charlie Sheen

Although he's had a successful acting career, Charlie Sheen's antics are what have really made jaws drop. The outspoken actor has received attention for his three marriages as well. In 1995 he married his first wife Donna Peele, and the pair called it quits in 1996. From 2002 to 2006, he and actress Denise Richards were married and welcomed daughters Sam in 2004 and Lola in June 2005 (after the pair had filed for divorce). Then, in 2008, the actor and Brooke Mueller got married and had twin sons Max and Bob in March 2009. They filed for divorce in 2010. In November 2015, Sheen shared that he is HIV-positive. He told Extra: "I think I'd sooner walk on the moon in exactly what I'm wearing than head back to the altar…. When you're terrible at something, why keep doing it…. I'm 0 for 3."

6. Kim Kardashian

Reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian recently became a mom of three, welcoming her daughter Chicago with husband Kanye West in January. But before marrying the rapper in 2014, Kardashian was notoriously married to basketball player Kris Humphries for 72 days before separating and divorcing in 2013, not long before she gave birth to eldest daughter North West in June of that year. On a 2017 episode of "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," she said she "just thought, 'Holy s**t, I'm 30 years old. I better get this together. I better get married.' I think a lot of girls do go through that where they freak out in thinking they're getting old and have to figure it out, and all their friends are having kids." Kardashian was also married to Damon Thomas for three years. The two tied the knot in 2000.

7. Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise tends to stir up conversation for many reasons, from his involvement with the Church of Scientology to his movie career to his three marriages. Around the same time he was being lauded as a heartthrob in '80s classic "Top Gun," Cruise was married to actress Mimi Rogers. The pair were together from 1987 to 1990. In 1990, Cruise divorced Rogers and married Nicole Kidman, who he met on the set of "Days of Thunder." The couple became parents to adopted son Connor and daughter Isabella and divorced 11 years later in 2001. In 2006 Cruise married Katie Holmes and welcomed their daughter Suri in April of that year. But in 2012 Holmes filed for divorce. Cruise has yet to say "I do" a fourth time, but this past spring he was rumored to be dating "The Crown" star Vanessa Kirby.

8. Drew Barrymore

Having stolen audiences hearts as a child actor in "E.T.," Drew Barrymore has basically been in the spotlight for her entire life. So it's no wonder that her three trips down the aisle have made plenty of headlines as well. The actor-turned-producer was married to Jeremy Thomas from 1994 to 1995, comedian and actor Tom Green from 2001 to 2002 and Will Kopelman from 2012 to early 2016, when the pair announced that they were ending their marriage. They share daughters Olive (who was born in 2012) and Frankie (who was born in 2014). "It was just, like, my worst nightmare," Barrymore told Ellen DeGeneres of the split from Kopelman. "I so wanted to raise kids in this ultratraditional way and do everything so the polar opposite of my experience."

9. Billy Bob Thornton

Billy Bob Thornton was most notoriously wed to Angelina Jolie from 2000 to 2003, but he has been married five additional times. He was married to Melissa Lee Gatlin from 1978 to 1980, during which time the pair welcomed daughter Amanda (from whom Thornton is estranged). From 1986 to 1988 he was the husband of Toni Lawrence. From 1990 to 1992 Thornton was married to Cynda Williams, and from 1993 to 1997 he and Pietra Thornton were married and welcomed sons William and Harry. He's also dad to daughter Bella, who he had with sixth wife Connie Angland. The couple married in 2016. Of his marriage to Jolie, he told GQ in 2016: "I never felt good enough for her."

10. Elizabeth Taylor

No list of celebrities known for multiple marriages would be complete without a nod to the queen of them all: Elizabeth Taylor! She walked down the aisle eight times! The icon was married to Conrad Hilton Jr. from 1950 to 1951, Michael Wilding from 1952 to 1957 (during which time the pair welcomed sons Michael and Christopher) and Michael Todd from 1957 to 1958 (they welcomed daughter Liza). From 1959 to 1964 the "Cleopatra" star was famously hitched to Eddie Fisher (who infamously left Debbie Reynolds for Taylor). Then she was married to Richard Burton from 1964 to 1974 — and a second time from 1975 to 1976. From 1976 to 1982, Taylor was married to John Wagner, followed by Larry Fortensky from 1991 to 1996. Taylor was once quoted as saying, "Marriage is a great institution," and it seems she believed it!
